I am always grateful to have an opportunity to speak about mental health and contribute towards dispelling the stigma associated with asking for help while simultaneously promoting the intelligence, courage and bravery it truly represents. The thing is, all of us need help at some point in our lives and we all have the capacity to embrace the guidance offered in psychotherapy. Because as many of us have found, emotional well being is the key to everything.
I have worked in and out of the mental health field for over 30 years. My journey began in mental health residential settings serving the chronically mentally ill of all ages, and then in a variety of trauma and crisis intervention clinics to include rape and sexual abuse survivors. My post graduate training has focused on trauma, attachment issues and mindfulness; specifically how this relates to and informs our experiences with depression and anxiety. Mindfulness based interventions are empirically proven and powerful tools in the management of depression and anxiety symptoms.
I believe everyone has the capacity to heal and just as each of our individual immune systems heal differently, so do our mental health “systems” in varying and individual ways. I offer you tools and insight based on sound knowledge and experience. Emotional healing is a path of personal choices, and combining psychotherapy with complementary resources such as yoga, mindfulness based tools, meditation, to list a few, can enhance the therapeutic process and result in profound emotional growth.
Many of us have unhealed parts of ourselves that at some point require our attention in order to achieve more peace in our lives. What I have found to be true both personally and professionally is that pain is inevitable and simultaneously there exists a very high potential for less suffering. I offer you the opportunity to open to your own resilient nature.
And this is the kind of open heartedness I hope to continue to bring to my therapeutic space for years to come.
